I have been seeing more men this year, than ever before! The workload/life balance is something we are all trying to achieve. Some facts about men’s health :
1 in 2 men develop cancer
Men are likely to live 5 years less than women
Men make 50%less appointments with health professionals than women
Men are more likely to be uninsured
Men have a higher death rate
However, I see men come into clinic, quietly concerned about their health, and wanting to embrace better health. A lot of my female clients say “oh my husband won’t do that”, but get them into the clinic, and they understand why they need to make the changes. Recently saw some famous sports athlete, remove the Coke bottles from the stand he was being interviewed at, and said don’t drink that – drink water. GOLD! Apparently Cokes stock market had a down turn the next day, powerful stuff! But he is right.
We can look at history and genetics, and say that men are very bravado, tough, don’t want to be seen as weak, which may be true. But they are still made up of flesh and blood, like us and need to be cared for and to care for themselves in they wan to live a long and healthy life. Leading by example is always my go to. Why not invite the men in our lives to join in a detox, see how they feel, then pass judgement?
One of my favourite tools (maybe being a hairdresser) is Hair tissue mineral testing, as its science based, comes with a great report of mineral levels, toxic metals (and men do work with a lot of toxic metals etc) and how these function in the body. So even if they say they are “all good”, do a test and then see what comes back! Its super easy and simple and one of the cheapest tests around.
So Happy Men’s Health Week! And Happy World Allergy Week!
